Dear Mr.Graham Brady:
I am an Icelandic citizen and like so many citizens from both my country and the UK, I am absolutely appalled by the havoc irresponsible bankers have wrought on our societies. I am also extremely bothered by the lack of regulatory supervision by the Icelandic banking regulatory authorities that helped create our crisis.I am writing you today to bring a serious matter to your attention. The campaign to recover the funds for the cancer charity at Christie’s has all my support as news of great financial loss by various charities, research funds and universities that did business with Landsbanki’s IceSave and Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander has saddened me.

It was nevertheless quite disturbing to witness the UK Prime Minister’s response to your question in the House of Commons where he implied that the UK regulatory authorities were not responsible in the Christie case. Mr. Brown said: “The fact is we are not the regulatory authority.” This is false.

Christie’s business was with Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander, a bank that was under UK regulatory authority and was regulated by the FSA. This is
clearly stated in the Treasury Committee report dated 04/04/09:

“Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander was a subsidiary of Kaupthing Bank hf, and
was therefore regulated by the FSA, and covered by the UK depositor
protection scheme, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).”

It is a serious matter if the PM deliberately lies to the House of Commons about this basic fact. In his reply to your excellent question he is shuns responsibility and blames the Icelandic authorities for harming a Charity that is by law protected by the UK authorities. This particular case has nothing to do with Iceland, the Icelandic government, the Icelandic people or the IMF.

I sincerely hope that you will address this issue again with the PM in the House of Commons.

The entire population of Iceland is suffering greatly because of reckless bankers, as are other citizens in the world. We are ashamed of the people who caused our collapse and directly affected us and UK citizens, businesses and government bodies.

We are nevertheless not to blame for the Christie travesty. Prime Minister Brown will need to be confronted and take responsibility in the tragic Christy case.

- Vanmat Ingibjargar -
Svör Ingibjargar við áskorun Jóns Baldvins um að endurnýja þurfi í forystu Samfylkingarinnar eru ekki í takt við þá bylgju sem gengur yfir þjóðfélagið og kröfu fólks í landinu. Ingibjörg virðist ekki vera gædd þeim hæfileika að geta tekið gagnrýni á uppbyggjandi og hátt. Þessi viðbrögð Ingibjargar eru ekki að birtast okkur nú í fyrsta skipti heldur virðist hér um endurtekna hegðun að ræða. Ingibjörg bregst seint og illa við gagnrýni, er ekki einlæg í svörum og á erfitt með að iðrast í viðtölum við blaða- og fréttamenn (sem er að mínu mati gluggi kjósenda númer eitt til að mynda sér skoðun á stjórnmálamönnum, flokkum og stefnu þeirra).

- Flugtak Ingibjargar -
Flug Ingibjargar náði hæstu hæðum í starfi borgarstjóra, þar stóð hún sig vel og var sameiningartákn þeirra flokka sem að Reykjavíkurlistanum stóðu. Hún höfaði einnig sterkt til meirihluta kjósenda í Reykjavík og í baráttusæti listanns fleytti hún fylginu með framboðinu. En frá því að hún tilkynnti um að hún myndi bjóða sig fram til alþingiskosninga hefur ferill hennar aðeins svipur hjá sjón.

- Staða Ingibjargar -
Miklar væntingar voru gerðar af Samfylkingarfólki til Ingibjargar sem sameiningartákn vinstri manna. Hún bauð hún sig fram gegn sitjandi formanni Samfylkingarinnar, Össuri Skarphéðinssyni, og sigraði hann. Margir studdu Össur enda hafði hann verið ötull starfsmaður flokksins frá stofnun hans og hafði hann lagt mikið á sig til að flokkurinn kæmist af stað sem alvöru stjórnmálaafl. En Ingibjörg hafði betur. Í skoðanakönnunum og kosningum frá því að Ingibjörg tók við hefur fylgið ekki aukist að neinu ráði frá því sem það var áður en hún tók við. Það má því með sanni segja að hennar tími sé kominn - og farinn!

- Frí Ingibjargar -
Ingibjörg Sólrun hefur nú tekið sér frí frá ráðherrasetu af persónulegum ástæðum. (Þing)flokkurinn sammældist um að Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir tæki við sem leiðtogi flokksins á Alþingi og settist hún í stól forsætisráðherra fyrir hönd flokksins.

- Meðbyr Samfylkingarinnar -
Það sem oft er kallað "momentum" í íþróttum og markaðsfræðum er þegar einhver stund á sér stað þar sem margir utanaðkomandi áhrifavaldar koma saman og mynda þennan sérstaka meðbyr sem þarf til að klára verkefni. Það er engu líkara nú en að meðbyr Ingibjargar Sólrúnar hafi lægt. Blása þarf vindi í segl Samfylkingarinnar fyrir næstu alþingiskosningar. Til að það megi verða þarf að skipa nýja forystusveit enda hefur nú þegar varaformaður gefið yfirlýsingu um að hann muni ekki gefa kost á sér. Ingibjörg ætti að sýna sóma sinn í að stíga niður af stóli formanns Samfylkingarinnar og hleypa þeim að sem meðbyr er með þessi misserin.

- Áskoranir -
* Ég skora hér með á Ingibjörgu að tilkynna sem allra fyrst að hún muni ekki sækjast eftir endurkjöri til formannsembættis á næsta landsfundi Samfylkingarinnar.

* Einnig skora ég á Jóhönnu Sigurðardóttur, forsætisráðherra að tilkynna sem allra fyrst að hún muni sækjast eftir kjöri til formannsembættis á næsta landsfundi Samfylkingarinnar.
